It’s like opening a box of chocolates.
There they are, shiny, beautifully decorated, seductive.
You don’t know where to start, but the decision doesn’t take long.
They are devoured in one bite but savored slowly.
The flavors awaken not only the palate but, I’d say, all the senses.
Yes, definitely, receiving chocolates is a true delight, as happened to me this week when I turned another year older.
But the analogy came to me because there is another very special anniversary.
I received it every weekend, in the early evening, Canadian time. They aren’t chocolates, but the sensation of receiving this other gift is very similar and equally captivating.
You guessed, it’s an exquisite delicacy for the literary sense of taste: Atril, which today reaches its 200th edition.
I want to take this week’s space to congratulate editor Luli Delgado for her dedication and care in producing each week what I call an oasis of good reading, a window that allows us to peer in and share inspiring reflections.
Yes, in this world where, to quote an anonymous poet, “what shines only has a place, even if what is copper shines like gold,” Atril rescues us from the opacity that sometimes suffocates us.
Atril not only shines as an aesthetic experience, thanks to the images that illustrate each chronicle or story, but also brights up with the sensitivity and unique style of each of its contributors, among which I am honoured to belong.
With them, I learn, I am surprised, I am moved, I laugh at some of their witticisms—in short, a true pleasure.
This week will be a double pleasure, as I’ll eagerly consume the 200th issue with a good cup of coffee and one chocolate—well, maybe two (or even three).
Thank you to our valued readers for allowing our voices to reach your homes each week.
Congratulations to Atril on your 200th issue!

Today she shares her “impulsive meditations” from Calgary, Canada, where she lives.
