That’s the name of the place I’ve visited most in recent weeks.
Good Will.
A better name is impossible. Its motto is “Thank you for making a difference.”
It’s an organization dedicated to helping those most in need by receiving donations from the general public.
I’m in the process of decluttering and eliminating my own mess, so Good Will has become a regular stop.
It’s a double pleasure, because every time I leave my overflowing boxes, full of things I no longer need but that could be useful to many others, I leave feeling light, as if I could fly.
Certainly, “giving” something, even a little, is much more comforting than spending money on superfluous things, or that scourge of our times that I call “chronic dissatisfaction,” which is nothing more than a reflection of a great existential void.
I confess that aside from feeling good about helping others, even just a little, it feels good to let go of everything one accumulates over the years, things that had their place and time, but no longer do.
After filling several boxes and taking them to Good Will, it’s time to sit down, rest, and receive the gifts of the universe—paradoxically, the best of all: giving.
I return home with my empty boxes (only to fill them again) but with that feeling of lightness I mentioned at the beginning.
Yes, my conclusion, perhaps too obvious, is that the more you give, the more your heart receives.
“An empty heart can hold nothing,
a full heart holds everything.”
