As we are fast approaching spring, I for one can’t wait. It represents an awakening of creativity, inspiration and inner reflection.
I recently came across the painting Narcissus (painted between 1597 and 1599) by Caravaggio.
I hadn’t appreciated the mythology behind it until it recently popped into my Instagram feed. Apparently, it is only one of two that Caravaggio painted on the theme of Greek Mythology. This one takes inspiration from the handsome youth Narcissus who falls in love with his own reflection, and then is unable to tear himself away, perishing on the spot.
But it is the moment after this where the spring flower Narcissus is said to have sprung from and first appeared.
